Help, please
I was reading Galatians on my way home on the train tonight, and though I have read it many times, I never stopped at "or an angel from heaven preach any other gospel".
Why does Paul warn about an angel from heaven preaching another gospel? What baffled me is that he mentions "from heaven", so it's not a fallen angel, right? Is it just an expression that he was using or is there a litteral meaning to this?
Would anyone be able to clarify? Thanks
Sarah

well I can tell you what I have as far as the literal sense.
I have read/shown that verse to dozens of Muslims. It scares them because I have them read it and ask them "who/what does this remind you of?"
Of course, Mohammad claimed that the angel Gabriel had appeared to him and gave him the Qur'an, which supposedly was another, better Bible.
How's that for prophetic accuracy?
Now many other false prophets have claimed receiving supernal knowledge from an angel. I'd say some of them might actually have seen what they though was an angel from heaven.
Here remember
2Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
and so it remains possible, as was the case with Mohammad, that Satan has, does and will yet appear as a literal angel of light to deceive.
Actually, here's what should have you scratching your head more than the reference to the angel from heaven
Galatians 1:8 But though WE (as in the Apostles including Paul)
now is that literal? you bet. in 2 ways
a) even if we ourselves start teaching something else (hypothetically)
b) even if someone takes on our physical appearance
how is that possible? well, check the verse preceding 2 corinthians 11:14
:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, TRANSFORMING themselves into the APOSTLES of Christ.
yeah... how's that for a literal interpretation... notice it's v.13!
Now, Galatians 1:8 is for the church dispensation, because we read in Revelation
Revelation 14:6 And I saw another ANGEL fly in the midst of HEAVEN, having the EVERLASTING GOSPEL to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people,
:7 Saying with a loud voice, Fear God, and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgment is come: and worship him that made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and the fountains of waters.
This "everlasting gospel" will be preached during the tribulation, it is not the church's gospel.
Yes, there is more than 1 gospel in the Bible, hence the command for you to "DIVIDE" "the word of truth".
Finally, I was once witnessing to my father's friend, an ardent Catholic, and pointing out the blindness of man and infallibility of the Bible. After our talk my dad (also a catholic) related that he was told disapprovingly by his friend
"if Jesus Christ himself came down and said something not in the Bible, your son would not believe him"
I replied
" well of course not, he wouldn't be Jesus Christ if that happened"

Good point about the other religions. I suppose Mormonism falls squarly into that category as well.

Thanks for coming over, Angie!
Rev. excellent! bingo!
I think you naield it with:
2Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
Verse 13 is heavy. And I know you always watch out for #13 in the Bible.
Lol, good one with dad's friend.
