Be Ye Holy
Often we do things because we fear the Lord, as we ought to. But we also ought to love the Lord will all our soul. The words from John 14:15 are Jesus Christ's own precious words.
What are his commandments? We were given many commandments, but the one that has been on my heart lately, probably more because of a convicting spirit, is the following:
~As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. 1 Peter 1:14-16
~Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the LORD your God. Lev. 20:7
Often enough, we brush sins off so easily, pint-pointing them as "little sins", not a big deal. There is no "big" or "little" sin to the Lord. We must never forget that sin is a big deal. It is because of our sin that we were separated from God, and because of our sin our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ, died on the cross and was much afflicted, wanting to redeem us back to Him.
The definition for holy is to be free from sin. Unfortunately, we are sinners. Holiness is one quality that only attributes to God. Only He is righteous, therefore, without sin. That is why he commanded to us to be holy, as He is holy. I admit, those are big shoes to fill!
Nevertheless, it is wrong of us to hide behind the fact that we are of a sinful nature, and therefore excuse and justify our wrong doing.
Why can’t we do things just because we love Him. Just because I love thee, Lord Jesus, make me holy, as thou only art.
