That I May Know Him

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. ~ 1 John 5:20 (KJV)

Waiting patiently on the Lord

I think it’s human nature to want to rush through life, but human nature is sinful nature. God’s Word teaches us to wait on the Lord. However, studying God’s word has also taught me that it’s not only a simple matter of waiting, but of waiting patiently.

Psalm 37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him.

Psalm 40:1 I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.

I now understand that the Lord is teaching me to wait, and to wait patiently and on HIM. That is alright. I much rather trust God’s wisdom than trust my own.

Pro 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

True...isn't it also interesting how the Bible doesn't just command us to wait on the Lord, but also speaks of His promise to those who wait? Isaiah 40:31 says "But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."

"Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD." Psalm 27:14

Sometimes, we're so frustrated about things and we want answers and action FAST. We live in an instantaneous age, where it's all about instant gratification. But God has his own timing, and it is perfect.

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:" Ecclesiastes 3:1

So we pray in faith, and wait patiently for our Lord...

    :)

It is not easy to wait patiently.

I disagree about the interpretation of Isaiah 40:31--In context, the Lord is speaking to Jacob saying, "why sayest thou....My way is hid from the Lord and my judgment is passed over from God?...the Lord....fainteth not neither is weary...Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strenght..." (you know the rest)

Anyways...the "wait" is not used in the waiting (As in waiting in line), but in the waiting (as a servant always ready to serve his master).

However, you brought to mind the hymn "Trust and OBey" (even though it doesn't really have anything to do with patience)

    Hey Joe,

You are correct! In the context of the passage, the verse (Is 40:31) is about those who put their hope and trust in the Lord. This is about patience by virtue of the fact that we're putting our hope, trust and anticipation in God -- we trust that everything happens according to His timing and His glory.

If you think about it... which is better? Waiting for God to answer prayer like waiting for a check to arrive in the mail, or putting complete faith in Him because you know and understand that everything happens according to His timing and glory? I pick the latter. Whether prayers are answered today, tomorrow or in years is irrelevant in light of God's providence.

And the funny thing is...once you get to the point when your complete trust is in God, waiting patiently almost becomes a non-issue. Things just happen. Prayers are answered. All in God's perfect timing.

A man says to God, "You're late." God responds, "No, God acts precisely when He means to."

Trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus....

Hi Leonard, thanks for dropping by and thanks for your comments! If we want the perfect will of God for our life, then we need to wait for his perfect timing. Trust and obey is a great hymn; if only we truly lived by those words...

Matthew, no it isn't. But it's rewarding. :)

Joe, you are correct! I think you should keep Gen.
3:15, sounds much more serious than "random blogger". I'll chek out that link later, promise! :), or, as you prefer :D
